Closed system
A closed system is one in which the blood is never exposed to open air between the draw and the injection. It reduces contamination risk and simplifies handling, and it constrains which kits and machines can be used together.

In practice
Whether a system is genuinely closed is a question worth asking a vendor directly, because the term is used loosely in marketing.
